Cold, cough and sore throat treatment sales growth in Great Britain 2010-2019

In 2019, the sales value of over-the-counter cold, cough and sore throat treatments in Great Britain grew by 6.7 percent. This was the third highest annual growth in the provided time interval, behind the 9.3 percent growth in sales value which occurred in 2012, and the 6.9 percent growth in 2018. The sales value of cold treatments experienced a decline in three of the years shown, in 2011, 2013, and 2017.

OTC medicine market in Great Britain

The sales value of OTC drugs has increased from 1.65 billion British pounds in the year 2000, to being worth approximately 2.74 billion British pounds in 2019. The single category with the highest value was pain relief, which had a sales value of 628.6 million British pounds. Cough, cold and sore throat medication followed with a sales value of around 479 million, while vitamins and minerals were the third highest at 432 million British pounds.

Growth of other OTC categories

At 9.3 percent, the pain relief medication classification had the highest growth of sales value in Great Britain between 2018 and 2019. This was followed by sleeping aid productions which grew by 8.3 percent from 2018 to 2019.
