Number of employed people in Sweden 2008-2018 The number of people with an employment in Sweden increased annually since 2009, when it was around 4.5 million employed, to around 5.1 million among the 10.23 million in the population The increase in the number of employed depends partly on the increase of the working age population that occurred during the same period.
The employment rate

     Furthermore, the employment in the Swedish society also depended on the financial state, both within the own country but also on a global scale. The lowest point of employment was in 2010, when the employment rate was 64.4 percent, which was a consequence of the financial crisis in 2008 and 2009.  

Different employment rate for men and women

    The employment rate increased annually since 2010 and was up at 68.5 percent in 2018. It differed among men and women during the whole period from 2008 to 2018, where the employment among men was higher. In 2018, the employment rate for men was 70.7 percent, while for women it was 66.3 percent.
