Statistics Belgium defines an economically inactive person as a person who was not economically active nor unemployed during the reference week. Examples are housewives, housemen, students, volunteers, retired people on the condition they were not paid for doing labor during the reference week.

Belgium is divided into 3 regions: the Flemish Region, the Brussels-Capital Region and the Walloon Region. Each region has its own Regional Parliament and a Regional Government.
