Central government debt in Sweden 2008-2020 The central government debt in Sweden fluctuated over the years. The amount was up at the highest point in 2015 and decreased in the following four years and It was forecast to decrease even further in 2018 and 2019. In 2018, the debt was around 1.26 trillion Swedish kronor, which equaled 26 percent as a share of the gross domestic product.
Central government budget balance

      The central government debt is determined by the budget balance, which was negative but growing until 2016, when it turned positive. In 2017, the budget balance was 61.8 billion Swedish kronor, and the central government income was around one trillion Swedish kronor.  

Central government income

   The largest source of central government income comes from direct and indirect tax from labor. The largest part is the direct tax from labor, which amounted to 635.6 billion Swedish kronor in 2017. The indirect tax from labor generated an income of 558.8 billion Swedish kronor during that year.
