Advertised beef brisket prices in the U.S. 2016-2020

Between October 19 and October 25, 2018, beef brisket was advertised at 2.95 U.S. dollars per pound on average at major U.S. supermarkets. In the previous year, beef brisket was priced at 3.5 U.S. dollars per pound on average.

Fresh meat sales in the U.S.

Beef has the highest retail sales of any type of fresh meat in the United States. Fresh chicken and pork have the highest total retail sales after beef per store per week. The total value of fresh chicken sold was 10,167 U.S. dollars per store per week, making it the second top selling kind of fresh meat in 2017. Of all the different cuts of beef one can buy from a grocery store or butcher shop, fresh ground beef accounted for 40 percent of all sales. In comparison, sirloin beef generated only 5.7 percent of total beef sales in the United States.

Beef consumption in the U.S.

In 2018, the average American ate 57.2 pounds of beef, up from 57 pounds per person in the previous year. While beef is expected to remain popular and widely consumed among Americans, veal consumption has seen a sharp decrease over the last several years.
