Attendance at sporting events in Italy was significantly lower in the first two years of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic compared to 2019. While admissions at soccer events totaled nearly 24 million in 2019, it declined to just around 5.5 million in 2020, then rose slightly to 6.7 million in 2021. That year, attendance at events of team sports other than soccer stood at 795 thousand, dropping from over four million in 2019.
