This statistic represents final consumption of coal by industry or domestic use in the United Kingdom (UK) between 1970 and 2018, in thousand metric tons. The final consumption of coal for industry and domestic use has decreased over this period. Domestic consumption used to be higher than industry consumption, with 20.2 million metric tons of domestic consumption in 1970 compared to 19.6 million metric tons of industry consumption. However, this has shifted over this period and in 2016, industry consumption was approximately three times as high as domestic consumption, with 1.96 million metric tons compared to 551,000 metric tons respectively.
