Italy: video games sales value in 2017, by PEGI rating system In Italy, video games for children represent a significant part of the market. Data from 2017 reported that video games suitable for players aged 3 and older represented 35 percent of the market, while games suitable for persons above 18 held 30 percent of the market. Similarly, the mentioned games categories held 31 and 30 percent of sales volume. Games are classified according to the Pan European Game Information rating system.
 Young players

Recent surveys about users’ habits confirm the market figures. The results of a survey conducted in 2017 showed that 41 percent of Italian children aged between eight and eleven years dedicated between one and two hours to online gaming. Another 14 percent of surveyed children spent between two and three hours playing online. Results among teenagers aged between 12 and 18 years indicated instead that 38 percent of them played between one and two hours a day.

 Online learning

Children are not only newer target groups for video games’ market in Italy. They are users of mobile apps for reading or learning activities as well. The analysis of such applications’ users showed that kids at four years old start using them quite regularly.
