Net internal migration in Italy 2019, by macro-region

In 2019, the North-East of Italy had the greatest increase in inhabitants nationwide, with a net migration of 3.2 per 1,000 inhabitants, followed by the North-West. On the contrary, South Italy recorded a negative net migration rate, which means that the amount of residents who moved out of this macro-region was higher than the number of residents moving into the same area. Similarly, the Islands registered a negative rate of 3.7.
