HIV in Italy
In Italy, the number of new HIV cases fluctuated over time. The lowest number of cases was registered in 2008, when 2,482 individuals were newly diagnosed with HIV. However, in that time data from several regions were missing. Thereafter, the number increased and peaked in 2012, before gradually decreasing until 2019. HIV was more common among males than females. Moreover, the most affected age group was the one consisting of people who were 30 to 39 years old. As a matter of fact, in 2020, 279 males and 77 females in their 30s were newly diagnosed with HIV.
HIV in Europe
Also, in Europe a decreasing trend took place. More specifically, between 2011 and 2020, among females the number decreased from 46.9 thousand to 36.6 thousand new cases, while among males it declined from 78.7 thousand to 68 thousand new diagnosis.
