Switching time for electricity customers in Great Britain stayed mostly the same during the displayed time period, ranging between 14 and 16 days since the beginning of 2018. In 2022, this figure dropped to less than 10 days. Meanwhile, figures notably declined for gas customers, from up to 24 days in 2014 to an average of eighteen days since 2018.

The source notes that the data used was taken from distribution network operators and does therefore not include the time taken by a supplier in advance of a transfer, such as to process a contract, or as part of the cooling-off period.

Supply licenses require licensees to take all reasonable steps to complete a transfer 21 days after the end of the 14 day cooling-off period (or after an earlier date during the cooling-off if agreed with the customer).
