In 2019, UniCredit was the leading banking group in Italy in terms of total tangible assets. In fact, the Italian bank with headquarters in Milan reported tangible assets amounting to nearly 853 billion euros. Second in the ranking presented in the graph came Intesa Sanpaolo, with tangible assets close to 807 billion euros. Far behind in third place was Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, the major Italian promotional institution for economic development through long-term investments at local, regional and national level, which reported tangible assets worth approximately 386 billion euros.
