Online presence of beer brands in Italy Q4 2019

The figures provided by Blogmeter reveal that, in the fourth quarter of 2019, the most popular beer brands on Italian social media were Tennent's and Ichnusa, based on number of messages. In detail, over the period considered, Tennent's counted 2,193 posts, whereas Ichnusa was mentioned in 2,041 posts and comments.  

 Beer brands: user engagement on Facebook and Instagram 

Another indicator of the performance of brands on social media is the user engagement, which is calculated as the sum of likes and comments on posts that mention the brand on a given social medium. Over the period from October to December 2019, Nastro Azzurro and Tennent's were the brands with the highest user engagement on Instagram in Italy. Regarding Facebook, Ceres and Birrificio Angelo Poretti were the beer brands generating the highest number of interactions in Italy.  

 Beer consumption in Italy

The level of beer consumption in Italy steadily increased from 2012 onwards. More specifically, the volume of beer consumed in the country considerably grew between 2014 and 2015 from 17,755 to 18,726 thousand hectoliters. Thereafter, the value kept on growing until 2017, even though less remarkably. Pertaining to the beer consumption habits, home drinking became increasingly common over the past few years. On the contrary, the share of consumers drinking beer out of home gradually decreased over time and in 2018 as it reached an all-time low of 36 percent.
