Despite a slight increase from 2017 to 2019, industrial electricity users in the Netherlands were paying less for electricity in 2019, than they were in 2008. Industrial users in the Netherlands during 2019 could expect to pay 9.41 euro cents per kilowatt hour, less than the 10.45 euro cents one would pay in 2008.

Energy in the Netherlands

In 2018, the Netherlands generated 117.5 terawatts of electricity, slightly more than the 117.3 terawatts generated in 2017. While the most recently released figures only cover the period up to 2015, data from the World Bank shows that during that year the Netherlands produced 82.23 percent of their electricity from oil, gas and coal sources. However, the share of electricity produced from those sources had generally decreased over the past several years.

Essent/ were the most popular energy suppliers as of June 2018, with around 3.1 million customers. Domestic company Eneco, together with its subsidiary Oxxio, reached 2.4 million clients. Dutch households on average paid around 17.07 cents per kWh for electricity.

Industrial electricity prices across Europe

The 8.63 euro cents per kilowatt hour puts the average Dutch price somewhere towards the middle of European industrial prices. Italian industrial users with a consumption of 20,000 to 70,000 megawatt hours would pay 9.43 euro cents per kilowatt hour as of 2018, while those in Norway would pay just 5.86 euro cents for the same amount.
