This statistic shows the distribution of deepwater oil wells worldwide from May 2013 to May 2015, by drilling activity. In May 2013, some 49 percent of the 263 oil wells that were drilling at that time were exploration and appraisal wells. By May 2015 that share had decreased to 32 percent.
