Share of total assets of five largest credit institutios in Benelux 2013-2021

In 2021, the five largest Belgian credit institutions possessed roughly 75.7 percent of the total assets in the Belgian banking sector. This was a small increase compared to the 75.3 percent reached in 2020. When compared amongst each other, Luxembourg had the most diverse banking structure of the three Benelux countries, where less than 30 percent of the total assets in the banking sector were owned by the five largest credit institutions. The Netherlands had the least diverse banking structure, with 84.1 percent of all assets concentrated in the top five credit institutions.
