Canadian mineral industry metal discharges to surface and groudwater 2005-2014
This statistic shows the discharges of selected metals (including antimony, chromium, cobalt, copper, manganese, mercury, thallium, vanadium, and zinc) to surface and groundwater in Canada from the mineral industry from 2005 to 2014. In 2014, the combined discharges of antimony, chromium, cobalt, copper, manganese, mercury, thallium, vanadium, and zinc to groundwater and surface water from the mining/mineral industry in Canada amounted to 42,208.3 metric tons, an amount much larger than usual because of the Mount Polley dam breach that happened in British Columbia that year, which contributed 40,386.4 metric tons of the total discharges to water in that year of these metals.
