Number of credit transfers in Belgium 2000-2019
In 2019, more than 1,700 million credit transfers (referred to as overschrijvingen in Belgian Dutch or virements in French) were made in Belgium. This is the highest number reached since the source started tracking. The numbers provided concern money transfers through banks and exclude peer-to-peer (P2P) payment systems, such as Payconiq. This app originally comes from Luxembourg and allows people to pay their friends, to pay their bills or to pay on a website. In 2018, Payconiq (before it became the "Payconiq by Bancontact" app in 2019) processed over 2.5 million P2P payment transactions in Belgium.
