Number of foreign patent registrations at the JPO Japan 2013-2022
In 2022, the total number of patent registrations by foreigners at the Japan Patent Office amounted to approximately 46.3 thousand, up from 42.5 thousand in the previous year. In the most recent year, about 35.4 percent of registrations were based on applications from the United States, while about 32 percent of registrations were based on applications from Europe. Registrations based on applications from China made up about 14 percent of registrations, while those from South Korea made up about 11 percent.
