Gross residential mortgage loans in Czechia 2018- 2023, per quarter
The value of gross residential mortgage lending in Czechia rose slightly in 2023, but remained shy from 2021 levels. In the second quarter of the year, mortgage lending amounted to about 1.4 billion euros - down from 2.1 billion euros in the same period in 2022. This had to do with the worsening economic conditions and the rising interest rates, which made taking out a loan less affordable. The United Kingdom, which was the country with the highest mortgage lending in Europe in 2023, recorded about 61 billion euros in lending.
