Soft drink consumption per capita in the European Union (EU) 2010-2020

In 2020, the average citizen of an EU member state consumed 89.7 liters of soft drinks per capita annually. The height of soft drink consumption was seen in 2011. However, since then consumption has dropped significantly.

UK market

Leading industrialized countries like the United Kingdom see a much higher consumption of soft drinks than the EU average. In 2018, a citizen of the UK consumed on average 211.1 liters of soft drinks. The country has seen the same overall trend in consumption. Large populous markets such as the UK are most likely the driver of overall developments in EU consumption. In spite of these developments market value has grown and is predicted to grow further.

European markets

Total consumption of soft drinks in the EU amounted to 49.7 billion liters in 2018. The market in Western Europe was worth 138 billion Euros the previous year. The soft drinks market was expected to grow and reach a market value of over 150 billion Euros by 2020.
