Total primary energy supply Japan FY 2017, by source

The total primary energy supply of petroleum in Japan amounted to approximately 7.8 thousand petajoules in fiscal year 2017, slightly declined from the previous year with around 7.9 thousand petajoules. The level of dependence on petroleum has shown a continuous decline in the recent years, as a result of the country attempting to switch the energy source from petroleum to liquefied natural gas (LNG) power and renewable energy.
