Number of employees in the newspaper industry in U.S. 2006-2021, by profession
In 2021, just 104,290 people were employed in the U.S. newspaper industry. This marked a drop of 70 percent over the 15-year period shown - in 2006, the industry employed over 365 thousand people. The number of newsroom employees more than halved, falling from 75 thousand to less than 30 thousand.
