U.S. residential retail price of electricity by state 2019 As of March 2019, Hawaii had the most expensive average retail price of electricity in the residential sector within the United States. The average price in Hawaii amounted to 34.45 U.S. cents per kilowatt hour, in comparison to Louisiana’s average price of 9.62 U.S. cents per kilowatt hour.

This has resulted in a variety of technological advancements that have enhanced society’s pace. Consumption is expected to continue to increase and reach nearly 5.2 billion kilowatt hours in 2050. Furthermore, the United States is one of the leading coal consumers in the world. For a long time, coal was one of the main sources for electricity in the United States. Despite the increase in electricity usage, coal consumption for electricity generation has been steadily decreasing over the last decade.
