India - regions with highest urban poverty population 2012

The statistic shows the regions with the highest urban poverty across India in 2011-12, distributed by states and union territories. With close to 33 percent of its population living under the urban poverty line, the state of Manipur had the highest urban poverty that year, followed by the state of Bihar with over 31 percent of its urban population living in poverty.

Note: Andaman and Nicobar islands did not report any urban population living in poverty during that time period.
Poverty line was calculated with the Mixed Reference Period method (MRP) which measures consumption of five low-frequency items (clothing, footwear, durables, education and institutional health expenditure) over a one year period, and all other items over the previous 30 days.
