In 2023, the balance of international payments (BoP) on financial account portfolio investments in Japan reached a surplus of 27.8 trillion Japanese yen, the second-highest amount of the past decade. Within the observed period the highest number was recorded in 2016 at close to 29.7 trillion yen.
