The Annual Business Survey (ABS) samples approximately 62,000 businesses in Great Britain and 10,000 in Northern Ireland to produce estimates for the total UK non-financial business economy. The source provides the following additional information: "Any reference to "businesses" relates to reporting units registered for VAT and/or PAYE on the IDBR. Some very small businesses (those without employees and with turnover below the tax threshold) will therefore be excluded."
