The share of Swedes who used WhatsApp daily were 11 percent in 2019. In general, the usage of social media got more popular over the years. While 53 percent of the respondents used social media in 2010, the percentage grew to 83 percent in 2018.  



    The main reason to use WhatsApp in Sweden in 2019 was to keep in touch with friends and family, according to 91 percent of the respondents. Strengthening professional networks was the second most common purpose, followed by entertainment and news.  



    A survey conducted in 2017 investigated which social media platforms were most popular in Sweden that year. Facebook led in the ranking and was used by 76 percent of the respondents. Instagram and Snapchat followed and were used by 49 percent and 26 percent of the respondents, respectively. WhatsApp ranked fifth, used by 21 percent of the participants that year.
