The Indian state of Maharashtra had the highest number of registered light passenger vehicles in India, at around 1036 thousand vehicles in fiscal year 2020. India’s automotive market was dominated by two-wheelers and passenger vehicles. Small and mid-sized car sales accounted for about 13 percent of around 2.9 million vehicles in terms of sales. Two-wheeler sales on the other hand had a share of over 80 percent.
