The average monthly price for natural gas in the United States climbed to 4.05 nominal U.S. dollars per million British thermal units in February 2021. This was nearly double the average monthly price in January 2021 and a result of plunging temperatures, which led to the Texas power crisis and forced refineries along the Gulf Coast to shut down. By comparison, Europe's gas prices fell to 6.16 nominal U.S. dollars per British thermal units in February 2021.
