Top 10 largest charities in the Netherlands 2016, by income The Dutch are among the most generous donors to charities. In a recent global survey the country ranked sixth, with nearly 70 percent of respondents from the Netherlands stating to have donated money in 2017. Which charities were they most likely to donate their money to? Ranked by income, KWF Kankerbestrijding, the NGO fighting cancer through various means, was the largest charity in the country, with an income of nearly 117 million euros in 2016. Runner-up Artsen zonder Grenzen, the Dutch branch of Médecins Sans Frontières, had an income of less than half of that, at 51.8 million euros.
International aid and human rights organizations most appealing charity type

Over three million Dutch were either members or donors of international aid and human rights organizations, making this the most widely supported type of charity in the country. Organizations focusing on wellbeing were however nearly equally popular, with over 2.1 million members and donors. By comparison, less than 21,000 Dutch actively supported arts and culture organizations.

Small rather than large contributions

Although many Dutch state to donate money to charities, few spend large sums on charity on a monthly basis. A 2018 survey found that nearly half of the respondents participating donated a maximum value of ten euros per month. By contrast, only three percent of survey participants gave more than 100 euros to charitable organizations monthly.
