This statistic presents the results of a survey among households across India about the average body mass index among adolescent girls in 2013-14, based on wealth index. The mean BMI of adolescent girls among households in the lowest category of wealth index was 17.94, while it was 18.39 among households in the highest wealth index category during the survey period.

Body mass index is body mass divided by the square of the body height, and is universally expressed in units of kilograms per meter square. Commonly accepted BMI ranges are underweight: under 18.5 kg/m2, normal weight: 18.5 to 25, overweight: 25 to 30, obese: over 30.
The wealth index in this survey was constructed using data on household possession of assets, infrastructure and housing characteristics collected in the household questionnaire.
