On Saturday March 11, 2017, the Dutch government prevented Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavusoglu from entering the Netherlands by revoking the landing rights of his plane. The car of Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, Turkish Minister of Family Affairs, was escorted back to the German border, where she entered the Netherlands. These two actions caused a diplomatic incident between the two countries. Parliamentary elections took place on March 15, 2017.
