Gender distribution of lead actors in Oscar-winning movies in the U.S. 2011-2018

According to a study on diversity in Hollywood, 72.7 percent of Oscar-winning films in 2018 had a male lead actor, up slightly from the previous year. The figure tends to fluctuate annually and generally hovers between 70 and 80 percent, though 2013 was unusual in that male and female lead actors were proportionally represented in Academy Award-winning movies that year.
