The statistic displays the total number of water bodies in the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and number of water bodies assessed for fish in the United Kingdom (UK) in 2015, by area. In 2015, there were 209 water bodies in Staffordshire, Warwickshire and West Midlands, 92 of which were assessed for their fish stock. Yorkshire had the most water bodies in the WFD program with a total of 469, of which 244 water bodies were assessed for fish. The National Coarse Fish Rearing Unit at Calverton produced 336,218 fish during the 2014 to 2015 financial year to improve stocks in rivers and lakes after habitat or water quality improvements and also to create fisheries in areas where there is a shortage of angling opportunities. During 2015 a total of 452,220 fish were produced.
