
Health care facilities lacking improved sanitation facilities 2014, by region
This statistic shows that percentage of health care facilities in three WHO regions that do not have improved sanitation facilities as of 2014. An improved sanitation facility is one that hygienically separates human excreta from human contact. According to the WHO, 16 percent of health care facilities in Sub-Saharan Africa did not have improved sanitation facilities, compared to 43 percent of those in Latin American and the Caribbean. Per the WHO, many patients in developing countries will develop secondary infections due to lack of quality hygiene, basic water facilities and/or proper sanitation.
