In financial year 2023, around 13 million metric tons of cargo was transported on national waterway-1. In 2024, the cargo volume increased by over 20 percent, compared to the preceding year. This increase in traffic was due to the Indo-Bangladesh protocol route traffic. Majorly building material was transported using this route.
