This statistic shows the results of a survey from 2016 on the importance of celebrating May 17, which is the National Day of Norway. During the survey period, 73 percent of the respondents totally agreed that the celebration of the National Day is important. Only one percent of the respondents stated that it is not important to have a celebration on May 17.
The background for this celebration is the signature of the Constitution of Norway in Eidsvoll on May 17, 1814. Many traditions come along with that day. For instance the king and his family stand on the balcony of the royal palace in Oslo and wave to the children and other people that pass by in a parade. Also, many Norwegians wear a bunad, the traditional folk costume. And flags are hoisted all over the country.
