In low- and middle-income countries in Africa the leading cause of death among those aged 10 to 19 years was lower respiratory infections with a death rate of 21.8 per 100,000 population. In high income WHO countries road injury was the leading cause of death among adolescents with a rate of 4.6. Road injury was the only cause to be in the five leading causes of death among adolescents in every WHO region.
