Number of detected fossil fuel thefts in Mexico 2001-2022
In 2022, roughly 11.3 thousand cases of fossil fuel theft were detected in Mexico, or the equivalent of one occurrence every 47 minutes. The number of cases increased exponentially in the past decade, reaching nearly 15 thousand in 2018. Since then, following a series of security measures enforced by the Mexican government, figures have slightly decreased, albeit still higher than the mid-2010s.
