This statistic presents the percentage of inpatient stays in U.S. safety-net vs. non safety-net hospitals in 2014, by service line. The share of inpatient hospital stays at non safety-net hospitals for maternal and neonatal services was 63.1 percent whereas the rest was at safety-net hospitals. As defined by the Institute of Medicine, the health care safety net comprises hospitals and other providers that organize and deliver a significant level of health care and other health-related services to patients with no insurance or with Medicaid.
