Leading banks by non performing loans in Italy 2016

This statistic illustrates a ranking of the leading banks by total value of non performing loans in Italy as of 2016. A non performing loan (NPL) is a loan for which the debtor has not been able to/ has chosen not to keep up with the scheduled payments for at least 90 days. As such it is considered less likely that a non performing loan will be paid off in full. It can be seen that UniCredit was ranked the highest, with NPLs amounting to almost 80 billion euros at that time. Intesa Sanpaolo ranked second for the same period, with NPLs amounting to more than 63 billion euros, a difference of 16.7 billion euros in comparison to UniCredit.
