Registered thefts of mopeds in the Netherlands 2012-2018

This statistic shows the total number of registered thefts of mopeds in the Netherlands from 2012 to 2018. In 2018, approximately 12,000 mopeds in the Netherlands were registered to have been stolen. This is approximately 700 mopeds more when compared to the previous year.
In 2017, the total number of registered thefts of passenger cars in the Netherlands reached a value of less than 9,000. Improved alarm systems in newly purchased cars, in combination with a better traceability, are the main reasons behind this trend. Police and insurance companies warn owners of older cars to install a newer alarm system.
