This statistic illustrates the share of Italians who think that the Jus soli ("law of the soil") bill should be passed by the end of the current parliamentary legislature in 2017. According to the survey, only one in four Italians agrees that the Parliament should pass it before a new legislature is formed. The bill would confer Italian citizenship to children who have been to school in Italy for at least five years and, if at least one parent holds a residence permit, to babies born on Italian soil.
