In 2022, the share of nonparticipation in cultural activities over the previous 12 months declined compared to the previous year, when participation was hit by the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Overall, the share of nonparticipation in Italy was higher in the macro-regions of the South and the Islands (Sicily and Sardinia). In 2022, Basilicata reported the highest figure, at 43.7 percent, while another five regions from those two macro-areas followed in the ranking.
