According to the survey, 28 percent of respondents have known at least someone that was diagnosed with Lyme disease. Comparatively, only 3 percent of respondents indicated that they had been diagnosed with Lyme disease. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection transmitted by ticks to humans. If left untreated, Lyme disease can affect the joints, heart and nervous system.
