This statistic displays the percentage of U.S. adults that have known someone with Lyme disease as of 2017. According to the survey, 28 percent of respondents have known at least someone that was diagnosed with Lyme disease. Comparatively, only 3 percent of respondents indicated that they had been diagnosed with Lyme disease. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection transmitted by ticks to humans. If left untreated, Lyme disease can affect the joints, heart and nervous system.
