This statistic shows the causes of preventable hearing loss in children worldwide as of 2016. According to the data, 31 percent of preventable hearing loss among children is caused by infections. Infections that cause hearing loss include mumps, rubella, meningitis, measles and common ear infections - all of which are preventable. It is estimated that 60 percent of hearing loss in children is preventable.
