The total number of cards with a credit function issued in Bulgaria from 2001 to 2021 increased steadily until 2008, after which fluctuation was observed. There was a total of approximately 1.3 million cards as of 2021. Just the year before, the number of cards with a credit function issued in Bulgaria was around 1.23 million. Around one in five people in Bulgaria owned a card with credit function in 2019 (0.21 credit cards per capita).
