The higher production of red wines reflects in the consumption preferences of French consumers: 72 percent of surveyed respondents declared to prefer red wine in 2018 . Furthermore, even though the overall consumption volume of wine has been decreasing during the last decades, the French remain the biggest wine drinkers among a selection of European countries. A study from 2015 on wine consumption recorded that half of the French were casual wine consumers that year, meaning they drank wine once to twice a week or more rarely.
