
Annual change rate in number of deaths due to road accidents India 2005-2020
The number of deaths due to road accidents across India decreased by about 12.8 percent in 2020 compared to the previous year, mainly due to the lockdown imposed by the government for the coronavirus pandemic. Each year, about three to five percent of the GDP of the country was invested in road accidents. About 70 percent of accidents involved young Indians. The country has about one percent of the global vehicle population but it accounted for six percent of the world's road traffic accidents.
